How to Get Court Records
Start with the custodian. Donna Flood, Clerk of Superior Court, handles Murray County Superior civil, domestic, criminal, appellate, recording, and related files. Probate, Magistrate, Juvenile, Chatsworth, and Eton have separate clerks. Online access includes PeachCourt and GSCCCA eCertification. A requester may also call, visit the counter, mail a focused request, or submit a written request under the Georgia Open Records Act.
- Identify the court, case number, document, and date range.
- Choose online access, phone, counter service, mail, or a written request.
- Ask whether the record is public and whether redaction is needed.
- Request an itemized estimate for search, copying, and certification.
- Confirm whether the copy is plain, certified, or electronically certified.
Types of Murray Court Records
Superior files can contain complaints, indictments, answers, motions, orders, judgments, appeals, and domestic filings. Probate keeps estates, wills, guardianship matters, marriage records, permits, and county traffic records. Magistrate holds civil claims, answers, judgments, garnishments, dispossessory filings, and warrant-related material. Juvenile records have special confidentiality limits. Municipal clerks keep city citation and ordinance files. Deeds, liens, and plats use recording indexes, not the court docket.

- Municipal citation records and restricted Juvenile Court files
What Murray Court Records Contain
A case file is broader than its docket sheet. The docket lists activity in date order. The file may hold pleadings, service returns, motions, signed orders, judgments, and permitted exhibits. A calendar only shows settings and should not be read as the result. Request the named document when full text matters.
| Case number | The complete court identifier. |
|---|---|
| Pleadings | Complaints, petitions, answers, motions, and responses. |
| Orders and judgments | Signed rulings when public. |
| Docket sheet | Chronological entries for filings and events. |
| Exhibits | Attachments with possible access limits. |
Murray Record Copies and Fees
A plain copy reproduces a public document. A certified copy adds clerk authentication. Ask the receiving office which it needs. Murray Magistrate lists a certified copy at $2.50 plus $0.50 per page, but its dated schedule is subject to change. Other courts and eCertification may differ.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Magistrate certified copy | $2.50 plus $0.50 per page; verify |
| Open-records copies | Up to $0.25 per page where applicable |
| Search and retrieval | Reasonable labor; first 15 minutes generally free |
| eCertification | Exact Murray fee not published |

Murray Record Access and Sealing
Uniform Superior Court Rule 21 starts from public availability but permits limits imposed by law, procedure, or court order. Redaction is narrower than sealing. Juvenile files, protective-order identifier pages, restricted criminal-history information, and some adoption or guardianship records may not follow ordinary routes. Ask whether a public docket entry or segregable portion can be supplied.
Key Rules:
Uniform Superior Court Rule 21 - court records are generally available unless law, procedure, or an order limits access.
Georgia Open Records Act guidance - requests should identify existing records and the correct custodian.
Murray County court directory - separate courts and clerks maintain different record classes.
Murray Clerk Records Routing
The Superior Clerk's office divides work among criminal, civil, fines and child support, UCC, and real-estate recording staff. That division is useful when a request names both the case and the document. Donna Flood's office keeps Superior Court civil, domestic, felony, appellate, and related files, but it does not keep every court record in Murray County. Probate, Magistrate, Juvenile, Chatsworth, and Eton each maintain their own categories.
The official Murray Clerk staff directory shows the local routing structure.
The directory helps a caller reach the desk tied to the file instead of sending one broad request to the wrong custodian. The Clerk can explain records and filing procedures, but cannot choose a legal remedy or give legal advice.
The Clerk limitations page documents that boundary.
A focused request for an existing order, docket entry, or certified judgment is a records task. Asking staff what to file next is not.
Murray eCertification Request Steps
GSCCCA eCertification gives Murray County users a remote route for eligible court and real-estate documents. It is available around the clock, but the county's instructions do not promise that every record type qualifies. They also do not publish one Murray fee or processing time. Confirm both before relying on electronic delivery.
- Create or sign in to a GSCCCA account.
- Choose Submit a New Request and select Murray County.
- Select the document type and complete the required fields.
- Submit the request, then wait for clerk processing.
- Authorize payment and use the emailed authentication link to retrieve the secured PDF.
The official eCertification entry appears in the assigned capture.
The authentication link is part of what distinguishes an eCertified file from an ordinary downloaded copy.
Murray Land Records Boundary
Recorded instruments and court cases share a clerk but not a search purpose. Deeds, liens, plats, UCC records, and trade names belong to the recording side. Kofile and GSCCCA support those indexes. They should not be used as if they were a civil, criminal, or domestic docket. Conversely, PeachCourt is the identified Superior case provider, not the land index.
The county's GSCCCA eFiling link identifies the real-estate route.
Its filing purpose is separate from inspection of a court case file.
The linked GSCCCA eFile portal provides the second assigned view.
Keeping these systems distinct prevents a land-index result from being mistaken for a lawsuit docket or judgment file.
Murray Written Record Requests
A useful written request goes to the office with control of the record. Name the court, full case number, document or docket entries, approximate filing dates, preferred format, and whether a certified copy is needed. Ask for an itemized estimate if retrieval may be broad. Do not send a Social Security number, full financial account number, or other private data merely to improve a search.
Georgia Attorney General guidance permits oral requests but recommends writing. Under the Georgia Open Records Act framework, an agency generally responds within three business days or explains why more time is required. The law does not require creation of a new report or analysis. Ask for existing indexes, entries, orders, judgments, or files. Court-specific access rules still govern sealed and confidential material.
Keep the date sent, the response date, the named custodian, the quoted charge, and the promised delivery method. If an office does not hold the file, ask whether staff can identify the correct custodian. When part of a record is protected, request any separable public portion rather than treating one redaction as a denial of the whole file. Murray County's emergency-communications open-records form is not a court-record request form, so it should not be sent to the Clerk merely because it is available on the county website.

The office cannot supply Probate, Magistrate, Juvenile, or municipal files merely because each court serves Murray County. Route those requests to the named court clerk. If the online provider returns no result, ask the custodian to check the underlying index or archive before concluding that the record does not exist.
Use the office's published duties to narrow the request. Superior criminal files, civil and domestic files, appeals, and clerk-certified documents belong with the Superior Clerk. A will or estate file goes to Probate. A statement of claim, garnishment, dispossessory filing, or Magistrate judgment goes to Magistrate Court. Juvenile dependency, delinquency, CHINS, and juvenile traffic material must be handled through the Juvenile clerk and its confidentiality review. City citation and ordinance files stay with the municipal court clerk.
This routing also controls certification. A clerk can authenticate a record held by that office, but one Murray County clerk cannot certify another court's file. Before visiting, ask whether the requested document is available for inspection, whether it must be retrieved from storage, and whether the office can send a plain or certified copy. Those questions reduce repeat trips and prevent a payment portal receipt from being mistaken for an authenticated court record.
Murray Court Record Not Found
A missing result may point to the wrong clerk, an account barrier, an older archive, or a sealed file. Ask the custodian to check the underlying index and confirm whether access is denied, delayed, or offered with redactions. Request the legal basis for withholding and ask whether a public docket entry, certificate, or separable portion can still be copied.
Historical land indexes use their own Kofile route. They should be checked only when the request concerns a recorded instrument, not merely because an online court search failed.
